… a course to help churches move their relationships
forward from a social encounter to a spiritual engagement.
Stepping-stones is intended for church leaders and
regular attenders whose churches have good contacts
in the community through their social activities, but
struggle with how to attract people into the spiritual
heart of the church. It is especially designed for churches
that may have held Alpha or similar courses and find
that, after doing the course a couple of times, they
have run out of people to invite! Or for those who simply
cannot seem to get people to come to anything beyond
their social events.
The Stepping-stones approach is built to a large extent
on the foundations of the Emmaus Contact handbook, which
I can recommend for further reading .
Session 1: Preparing the Church starts the group
sessions and deals with how the church can prepare and
put things into place for a “stepping-stones” initiative.
Session 2: First Steps then works through how
individual church members and “regulars” can take some
first steps in developing their relationships with people
they know.
Session 3: Next Steps takes this further.
Session 4: Stepping Out gives the opportunity
to draw it all together and plan what to do next.
